Playscape Readers at Naper Settlement

Join Naper Settlement for some reading fun with Playscape Readers!
Naper Settlement is excited to announce that its monthly children’s reading program, Playscape Readers, is returning in-person beginning June 9th! Each Playscape Readers is led by one of Naper Settlement’s museum educators who reads a story aloud while teaching children important reading skills dealing with vocabulary, comprehension, listening, and more.
Story time is an important activity for young children to participate in, as it helps them become familiar with different sounds, words, and language. It also helps children develop early literacy skills and teaches them the value of books and stories!
The program, which is located outdoors at Naper Settlement’s Rita (Fredenhagen) and John Harvard Early Learning Playscape, turned virtual last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. New video episodes were posted monthly on Naper Settlement’s Facebook, allowing parents to spend time with their child in the comfort of their own home while sparking their imagination, stimulating curiosity, and encouraging creative thinking and problem solving. You can watch the last virtual Playscape Readers video, which features the story of The Three Little Pigs and focuses on the reading skill of rhyming, on Facebook here. All of the museum’s previous Playscape Readers videos are located on Facebook for you and your child to watch together.
Naper Settlement is happy to bring this program back on-site for some outdoor reading fun. Playscape Readers is a great opportunity for your little ones to explore reading in an interactive environment! Visit the Playscape at Naper Settlement this summer on June 9, July 7, August 4 and September 8 at 1 p.m. for a fun story time that is sure to capture your child’s imagination. After participating in the program, your child will enjoy exploring the Playscape which includes a splash pad, playground, Conestoga wagon, Sensory Prairie Garden, and more!
Playscape Readers is included in general museum admission. Naper Settlement members, Naperville residents with proof of residency, and those under 4 years old receive free admission. Click here to purchase admission tickets to Naper Settlement.
