Emily. Mom to know.

“Emily Misky is a Mom To Know because she has filled a space in my life that was just meant for her, funny how life gives you what you need.  Emily and I met in 1996 at Palmer College of Chiropractic and became quick friends. The funny part is that we didn’t become specifically close until we lived 3 hours away from each other. As our lives, families and careers grew over the next 23 years, so has our bond and connection. I am not sure what I would do without Emily. 4 – 6 times a year, we figure out a way to see each other. Sometimes it is a trip that has been planned for months, other times it is an “any chance you are free for me to come out there tonight?” text! Emily is unbelievably kind, giving, thoughtful and one of the best chiropractors, community leaders and mothers I know. She fills a role as family for me that is filled with never-ending acceptance, love and comfort. She knows everything about me. Everything! And, thankfully she hasn’t run away screaming yet! I trust her implicitly with my passions, my story and my emotions and she fills my life with happiness and smiles. I couldn’t love her more.” – Dr. Cathy Subber

Meet Emily!

Hello fellow mamas!  My name is Emily Misky and I live (in Cuba City, Wisconsin) with my husband of 22 years and 3 children, Elizabeth, Jack and Maya. I have been a chiropractor for 20 years, specializing in prenatal and pediatric care, working ½ time until the kids were all in school, and now working ¾ time.  My journey to motherhood began as the 5th child of 7, on the family farm, and with an amazing mother and father to learn from.  My parents are the people who have been most inspirational and influential in my life, teaching me by example the core values I hold dear.  I was shown how to love through compassion rather than complaint and condemnation.  I was shown how to see the world with perspective rather than privilege and prejudice.  It is with family that I am the happiest.

My heart bursts every Christmas morning seeing the kids at the tree… or when the whole crew (my side or my amazing in-law family) gets together at any holiday!  This tradition of making time to get together at Christmas time is my most cherished tradition.   My family extends further than blood as Cathy Subber is my sister by choice…always and forever!  Other places I find that feeling of pure joy is Church mass at Christmas time, dancing to my brother’s band WheelHouse, sitting on the couch with my husband (chai tea in hand), talks with girlfriends, and hanging out with my babies.  It is these days, as I get older, that things seem to become clearer.  What do I stand for?  What have I learned?  What would I share with others?  My answer to all of those questions is summed up by the words of my father and father-in-law…. My father has always said the secret to life is “remember where you came from, remember why you are here, and remember where you are going”.  By connecting with GOD, and giving gratitude for his gift of my life, I live a life that doesn’t take the small things for granted.  The words of my father-in-law have always been “remember who you are and who you represent”.  By remembering that my words and my actions affect and reflect others helps me live a life that remains accountable and one that I pray will bring happiness and peace to others.  These are the mindsets that I hope to pass on to my children.  It is the role of parents that makes this world turn.  Parenting is a platform that allows children to leap from.  My parents gave me a platform full of grace, love, standards and clear boundaries and for this I am forever grateful!  It is my hope that my children will someday say the same of me.
