April’s Element of Health at Advanced Health of Naperville is a topic that far too many of us ignore. Sleep and rest are vital to our overall health. This is when our bodies recover and heal. It’s a recharge of sorts-think of it as plugging in your charger at night. Benefits of quality sleep (which is generally considered 7-9 hours) include improved concentration, decreased stress, better emotional health, reduced risk of heart disease and stroke and increased immune function.

When it comes to sleep, quality is key. If you are having trouble with your sleep quality, be sure to speak with your doctor. Diet, exercise or stress might be factors contributing to your restless night. Be sure to set yourself up for good sleep by taking good care of your body and mind during the day.

Healthline lists 10 reasons why good sleep is important and our favorites include:

  • Improved concentration and productivity
  • Decreased risk of heart disease and stroke
  • Good sleep is linked to healthier body weight
